MY DARLING ADVERSARY
Every protagonist needs his/her antagonist, that’s why a new antagonist springs up when the old one dies. It sounds sad but life can’t always be a comedy and it shouldn’t, every level has its battles.
Let me tell you a short story; I have a friend who was raised in the worse condition, her family wasn’t poor, so she barely ever lacked food or clothes and her school fees were always paid on time.
What she lacked was never that kind of leisure, rather it was joy. She had the most verbally abusive father who told her in the meanest way possible that she wouldn’t amount to anything.
At that point in the girl’s life, she was constantly coming first in class, she was working with the matron’s at the children’s department in church and her closest friend was the Bible. Still, her father couldn’t see anything good in her, but guess what? This girl climbed on that hate wagon and became the financial back bone of her family and that same father who hated her apologized to her in tears.
The point is, we all need adversaries in life, maybe that girl wouldn’t have been equally motivated supposing she had a loving father, and maybe she wouldn’t have made it her life’s mission to disappoint her father.
We all hate our adversaries but the truth is that they are just doing their jobs. Does their comments hurt? Of course, yes. Does their remark scar us? Yes it does. But instead of locking your doors and crying, go and prove them wrong.
You hear stories of how a guy was poor and his girlfriend left him because of that, after which, he made it big and that girl began to regret her decision.
Do you know that the guy might not have made it if that girl didn’t leave him and thereby gave him the push he needed? I mean, why didn’t he make it for the five years he was with her? Why was it that six months after she left, he began to prosper?
The answer is simple: he got motivated. She left and he finally got angry at his situation enough to be unable to sleep, she wounded his ego, broke his heart and with that he could no longer breathe until he got what he needed. While she was sleeping next to him and caressing his head, he couldn’t feel the weight of his situation because she was robbing it away, but then she stopped and the pain became unbearable.
That’s what we need, unbearable pain about our situations, the inability to sleep because you are still in same position for the last five years. They say; only poor men sleep at night and that’s the truth, stop sleeping through the night, wake up and think of your future, get angry and take steps.
“I nor fit kill mysef ooo, abeg make persin pikin sleep small” well, while you are there sleeping, people are doing big things.
A friend of mine used to joke; “ha, make I sleep? You want make my mate come get money pass me?” it always made me laugh but it’s true.
Wake up at night, carry a note book and a pen, strategise and in the morning, take steps that will keep your adversaries in perpetual shock and thereafter become your most dedicated admirer…
